Solving two integration challenges at the same time: higher display brightness and limited installation space.
High-Brightness HMI Display for Strong Ambient-Light Environments
For an industrial HMI project in a high-ambient-light environment, increasing screen brightness was only half of the challenge.
The customer's original standard-brightness display performed well indoors, but screen visibility dropped significantly under strong ambient light.
They needed to upgrade to a 15.6-inch FHD high-brightness LCD.
The enclosure had already been designed, and the available installation space behind and around the LCD was extremely limited. A conventional straight-PCB structure would require additional space outside the panel area, making integration difficult without modifying the existing enclosure.
Redesigning the enclosure would mean additional tooling costs, another round of mechanical validation, and a longer project schedule.
So the real challenge was not simply finding a brighter LCD.
It was finding a solution that could deliver higher brightness without creating a new mechanical problem.
Limited Internal Space Made a Conventional Straight-PCB Layout Difficult to Integrate
The replacement LCD had to meet both optical and mechanical requirements at the same time:
Simply replacing the original LCD with a brighter panel would not solve the complete problem. The display also had to physically fit the customer's equipment.
After evaluating the brightness and installation requirements, we recommended our YVO1560VQE-Y2-12 high-brightness LCD.
The 15.6-inch LCD provides 1200 cd/m² typical brightness, 1920 × 1080 FHD resolution, and a 1200:1 typical contrast ratio. It also features an anti-glare surface treatment to help reduce reflections in demanding lighting environments.
Compared with conventional standard-brightness displays, the higher backlight output significantly improves screen visibility under strong ambient light.
Brightness, however, was only part of the solution.
With a traditional straight-PCB layout, the circuit section requires additional installation space around the LCD.
For this project, we selected the back-folded PCB version, positioning the PCB behind the display instead of allowing it to extend outward.
By keeping the PCB within the rear area of the LCD, the back-folded structure reduces the extra installation space around the panel and gives engineers more flexibility when working with compact enclosures.
The module measures approximately 350.6 × 205.17 mm, while the PCB is positioned within the rear area of the LCD to support a more compact installation layout.
The LCD uses an eDP 1.2 interface, making it suitable for integration with compatible industrial computers, embedded systems, and HMI platforms.
Instead of evaluating only the resolution and electrical interface, we considered the LCD as part of the customer's overall system design.
Straight PCB vs. Back-Folded PCB — Same High-Brightness Display, Different Mechanical Layouts
The proposed configuration addressed both major challenges.
Improved screen visibility in strong ambient-light conditions.
Reduced the additional installation space required around the LCD.
This allowed the display design to better match the existing enclosure without requiring major changes to the overall equipment structure.

Not every project requires a back-folded structure. For applications where sufficient installation space is available, we can also provide a 1200-nit straight-PCB version.
Suitable for equipment with sufficient space around the LCD and a conventional installation layout.
Suitable for compact enclosures where the PCB needs to remain within the rear area of the display.
This gives customers more flexibility to choose the mechanical structure according to their actual equipment design rather than being limited to one standard configuration.
